RVR Spotlight: Michael Mishina

Along with the excitement of starting his freshman year at Ballard High School, Michael Mishina is a new Rainier Valley Rower with the novice team at the Pocock Rowing Center! With two weeks of summer rowing and three sessions of erg ed under his belt, Michael has already grown to appreciate how fun and challenging crew can be. He strives to help his boat go fast and already understands rowing takes more than fitness:

Michael Mishina“You need patience too. You have to be patient with other people as they learn how to row. You also have to be patient with yourself. Sometimes you try your best and you mess up anyway.”

– Michael Mishina

Michael has certainly done his best, jumping in to learn strange rowing slang, meet new people, and explore entirely different area of Seattle, and Erg Ed helped him get the start he needed. For the past week, Michael has been working hard earning his Rowing Merit Badge at Boy Scout camp! Certainly no easy feat, with a wide range of requirements, including a swamped boat drill, CPR, and (of course) rowing. Way to go Michael!
